Can you improve yer motorcycle riding skills by reading a book? No doubt about it. Keith Code is founder and director of California Superbike Cornering Schools and has published a number of books on the subject of racing motorcycles on speed tracks. Although most of this book's focus is on handling race bikes, only the last two of its sixteen chapters are exclusively dedicated to racing. The book concentrates mostly on better controlling your speed while maneuvering your bike over varying racetrack conditions. As you'd expect, there is a major emphasis on turning: getting through the turn with increased mph and decreased time spent in [the turn] and [maintaining] adequate control of the bike. Code's overall approach to improving riding skills is to define the basics, and then to investigate the decisions you must make to ride well. He uses a great analogy: Each person has a fixed amount of attention while riding a motorcycle. This is represented as a $10 bill worth of attention. If you spend five dollars of it on one aspect of riding, you have only five dollars left for all the other aspects. Spend nine and you have only one dollar left, and so on. The aspects of riding he talks about are things like: Road characteristics: Constant-, increasing-, and. decreasing-radius turns, crested turns, series turns, positive- and negative-camber turns, and road surfaces. What you do: Riding is one thing; riding plus being aware of what you are doing is quite another. Making an effort to look at what you are doing while you are doing it. Your own evaluation of what you just did and what just happened: Things that can be thought over and changed if necessary. I like his teaching strategy. After isolating several specific principles, concepts, and techniques, each subsequent chapter effectively builds on what was previously presented to the point that if you didn't understand the concept and haven't yet experienced it, you'll want to get back on the road and try it out, read the book some more, then evaluate what you understand. His explanation of Reference Points is invaluable, even if you are a car enthusiast. At speed, location is a moment in time. You have to use the correct control and the correct place. He explains counter steering (push right to go right) in straight forward and easy to understand detail. For the adventurous he explains sliding, hanging off and (you may need this) falling off. Andy Ibbott is an experienced journalist and former road test editor of Motor Cycle News. He was the first British coach employed in the UK by the California Superbike School, which now operates motorcycling courses at Silverstone, Rockingham and Cadwell Park. In relating his story, Kornberg never avoids the difficult question of "why": why he felt classical nutritional studies had reached a plateau, why he turned to enzymology as a discipline in which the important answers would be found, and why he believes the study of enzymes will grow ever more important as we face the new scientific frontier of brain function.

ENZYMES CREATE LIFE

The importance of enzymes was first impressed on me years ago (1981) by Dr. William Donald Kelley through his explanation and use of pancreatic enzymes in his cancer treatment protocol One Answer To Cancer an Ecological Approach To TH. (More recent accounts of Dr. Kelley's protocol are presented in Cancer: Curing the Incurable Without Surgery, Chemotherapy, or Radiation and One Man Alone: An Investigation of Nutrition, Cancer, and William Donald Kelley) Around 1998 I came across and read the classic "Enzyme Nutrition" by Dr. Edward Howell Enzyme Nutrition which imparted to me the vital importance of enzymes to the essence of life. As a consequence, I always strive to eat raw foods as much as possible and to take digestive enzymes regularly based on these teachings.

However, I have always been intrigued by the mystery of when and how life is born (erupts) from inanimate matter and the hints were that enzymes played a key role in that evolutionary step. In my recent book searches I came across Arthur Kornberg's "For the Love of Enzymes" and bought it on the basis of the recommendations with the hope that it might shed some light on the process of the eruption of life.

I was captivated by the book and could not put it down until finished. It clearly defined what an enzyme was in chemical terms. It certainly confirmed to me that life would not exist were it not for enzymes. Although the explicit details of the step by step process of the evolution of first life still remains to be unveiled (to my present knowledge), there remains no doubt in my mind that enzymes are the vital "spark" which makes and keeps the "engine" of life going. This book has filled many gaps in my pseudo-layman's knowledge of life, biology, and health. In addition, it gives the insight into the form, creation and manipulation of DNA for which enzymes are essential, and the resultant techniques of genetic engineering. It also presents an inspiring account of the pursuit of science from one very prominent person's (Nobel recipient's) perspective. I highly recommend this book to any layman interested in the origin of life, biology, and health - and certainly any aspiring health practitioner or student in the health field or the broad field of biology, chemistry, and biochemistry. It was mind-expanding and mind-blowing to me! Enjoy!

deserves much wider distribution

Every Christian who is interested in the relationship of his faith to the political realm needs to read this book, more than once. Rushdoony explains how America got in the situation we are now in. Even though it was first published in 1970, it is still quite relevant today, because the trends he saw then have only become more pronounced in the 21st century. Thought the book is solid, and filled with ideas and information, it is still quite readable (just give yourself time, because you will often stop and think about what Rushdoony just wrote).

Powerful, interesting and illuminating

This book is a real treasure. It is not about just politics but combines politics with philosophy, history, religion, economics, social order, law and justice, and other aspecst of man's life experience as influenced by his character. It recognizes man as a spiritual creature who seeks truth in order to gain an understanding and meaning for his life and compares the inevitable results of those choices based on which source of truth man choses to embrace. The book is well written and deep. Having red it once, I look forwad to reading it once again.
