Yes, the man is opinionated, and one may argue with some of his more controversial and unsparing critiques. His analyses are grounded in a thorough understanding of music, and he does not retreat from criticizing the most popular. I think that the whole topic is perhaps more subjective than Wilder lets on, but at least he's forthright about his opinions, and provides hundreds of musical annotations to illustrate his views. I'll also agree with the reviewer who criticizes Wilder's view that post-50's popular music was written by "amateurs." Still, this is widely regarded as a must-have for the student of popular music, and it's an excellent, albeit somewhat technical critique of popular music's "golden age." Recommended!

FIVE STARS FOR PAPERBACK - KINDLE: um...

The Kindle Edition makes the book half as useful by failing to present sheet music excerpts clearly. They are the very subject of the book, and they cannot be read.

I have treasured this volume over all others on the subject, but I wanted it on Kindle so I wouldn't tear my third copy to pieces as I did the first two. I can't really use it in Kindle edition, although the lilt of Wilder's prose certainly seems to survive the transition.

ALEC WILDER himself a composer has written what is generally considered the bible of AMERICAN POPULAR MUSIC.More than thirty years have gone by since the first �dition of this book and it remains fresh.Like many i am proud to say that this book was really for me what i needed to start digging into the history of many songs before the rock era.From BERLIN and KERN to the often forgotten greats like DONALDSON and McHUGH they are all there and mister WILDER knows what he is talking about;he had talked to many writers and composers who were at the time of the first �dition still with us.Personal opinions are of course a matter of taste;we are for example not obliged to believe everything he says.Most of the time mister WILDER is right:EXAMPLE:he believes that RICHARD RODGERS was perhaps the most gifted composer of his time.Few can really disagree with that.In fact,there is only one major problem with this book,if you don't read music it won't be too enjoyable for you,because there are many examples with sheet music to proves the points he wants to make.Everyone who has an interest in the history of AMERICAN popular music should buy that book.

THINKING OUT LOUD!!!

What a masterpiece Amoroso was to read. For me the Alfonzo series is read like poetry that's beautifully flawed.
This series will have you so emotionally invested, not only to the amazing story line but the unforgettable characters as well.
Amoroso took me there, I could hear my heart in my ears, the pulse on my tongue, the tension in my body, feeling every
emotion the characters went through. At the end, Thinking Out Loud! I shed tears.
Oh what a journey! what a painful and beautiful Journey!

I wish I could give this book a thousand stars! Magnifico! And yes I am praying for book 17!!!

Ok I will not tell anything too significant to spoil your reading experience. In saying that WTF lol. .. This author will take you thru some changes. When I read this one. I was already going thru some things. So I was okay that it didn't come out the day it was suppose too. I opened my Kindle and it took me too Italy, New York, Puerto Rico. I was in the room when people died. I was in the room when someone cried in grief and I cried with them. I was in that dark place telling someone to not give up the will make it and they are not alone. I was there when someone fought to not take that last breath and break the hearts of people they would leave behind. This is what a book like this series will do to you. It will make you leave your problems behind. Take you to another land. Learn history. Learn how to forgive. Learn how to love when you want to hate. Thank you for creating this series SW Frank. Thank you for creating my husband. Thank you for teaching me forgiveness. Thank you for answering some questions. Thank you for showing fellowship between women who are not sisters, not in constant competition with each other but helping one another over a receipe for dinner fora loving husband :) I can't wait for 17 but even if there is not another one. You went out with a sweet sixteen baby :)

Excelente libro! un compendio muy completo en los temas referidos a la empresa Familiar peque�as, medianas, grandes y conglomerados. Informaci�n que te ayuda a recapacitar y a entender que hay toda una ciencia detr�s de una organizaci�n y una estructura no solamente empresarial, si no familiar, que forman las pautas en las acciones y actividades de una empresa, moldeando su estrategia y la direcci�n de la misma. I love the taste of eating out but don't know what they do with the food I am going to eat and this scares me. So I look for recipes to get that take out flavor at home and this book does just that. You get great flavor at half the cost and no worries. How great is that. Thank you and enjoy your meal and your day.

For this to be the shop manual, it did not contain any information as to working on the engine.... Doesn't tell u how to take off the cylinder heads or nothing... Doesnt even show the valves...

The Bently manual is a great resource for anyone who buys a used car. Even if you don't work on the car yourself, it has information on service schedules, upgrades, and how to check fluid levels and other functions of the car.

Missed my model on the fringe

Book has great diagrams. This is not a repair manual but a reference manual. My model is a 1998 A6 Quattro wagon. Several places, primarily in the electrical stuff, it misses my model or the picts do not show whats really in my car. Instance is there is no wiring diagram for the "1998 central locking system". Diagrams start with 1999. Also, no picts to show where windows system breakers are located for this model. A pict and diagram shows them to be under the drivers foot well, but after taking my panels off, its no where to be seen.

Great introduction section in the beginning of the manual to discuss differences between models, years, and options. Good functional info on transmissions and engines there too.

So far, its the best there is out there, but as most all these type books, they fall short. It is worth it for the info and diagrams it does contain.

About the Author
Charles G. Trumbull was the editor of The Sunday School Times, a respected Christian journal with a weekly circulation of more than 100,000 in the United States and abroad in the early 1900s. He was one of the foremost promoters of the Keswick holiness movement, and in 1913 he helped found America 's Keswick Conference Center in southern New Jersey . His niece, Elisabeth Elliot, wrote a number of books now considered classics, including Through Gates of Splendor and Shadow of the Almighty.

life changer NO LIE!!

If you would like to live in the understanding of the constant love Christ has for you and the grace he has for you to live as the new creation you are in Him rather than thinking about how nice it will be someday when you over come this thing or grow in that....read this over and over again till it sticks!!!! Read it ALL before judging it. Look up the verses. Welcome to a true description of the freedom for which Christ has set us free!!!! God bless!
