When you start the book does not take too long to realize that the majority of the book is an advertisement for his lesson program. At the end there is a light description of some "moves". I was expecting at least highlighted techniques. Also a link to a website for the lessons would be appreciated.

Definitely, you won't learn how to fight by reading a book, but this book repeats over and over again the same information.

Great Bible study for a Women's Group! Highly Recommend! Great Seller!

Great purchase. Book was brand new as advertised. The study has been used in our women's group Bible study and we are all learning afresh what the intent of God's law was: to reveal the holiness of our Great God and to see the extraordinary lengths that Christ has gone to save His people. As to Mrs. Arthur's teaching, I am a huge fan of the Precept Inductive Study method. This is more of a lighter study, however, the depth is here. When we studied particular topics, like divorce for example, I wish she gave a stronger exhortation about the faithfulness of our marital vows - even in cases where adultery has divided the marriage, it is still not beyond hope for God to heal a marriage. Our vows were made "for better or for worse". God never divorces His people/His Bride. We have all committed spiritual adultery or have been unfaithful to our Pursuing God and Heavenly Husband and still He remains steadfast in His love for us and in His pursuit. Marriage is meant to be a picture of this (Ephesians 5:22-33 among many other texts).

An Excellent Study on Faith

LORD, I'M TORN BETWEEN TWO MASTERS is broken down into chapters with readings/questions for five days of the week and review questions at the end of each chapter.

To get the most of this study, I suggest reading actively and answering the questions within the chapter. This is good preparation for the review questions at the end and for small group discussion.

In most cases, I recommend writing the answers in your own words, not just repeating what is in the text.

I now look at the Sermon on the Mount differently and have a new understanding of its meaning for me: I must acknowledge my spiritual poverty, my inability to change apart from Jesus, and my continuous dependence on God and the Holy Spirit.

Even though there are nine chapters, it may take more than nine weeks to complete the study. How quickly the study is completed depends on the level of Bible knowledge and the commitment of the participants.

Good read.

English history makes for fascinating reading. There were several interesting lives who have impacted history, and their stories make for very interesting, and informative discovery. Actually the Puritan era ended before 1714. The reason 1714 is used as an end date, is that was the year Matthew Henry died. He was not a Puritan, but his father was a Puritan divine; Matthew Henry was greatly influenced by his father's body of work, and his personal influence as well. A good book to read about Matthew Henry is one I just finished reading: Matthew Henry, His Life And Influence, by Allan Harmon.

Great for Apache configuration

Includes a handy chapter on HTML exchanges between server and browsers that will help sysadmins thrust into a Web server admin role.
The book is clearly and professionally written, and contains excellent descriptions of the various configuration directives, with special attention paid to configuring multiple virtual sites on a single server.
There is ample documentation on compiling Apache from source code. I'm sure that many new web administrators will not find this portion of the book necessary, given the now-ubiquitous availability of pre-compiled binaries in most Linux distributions, but it is nice to have the info as a reference.
My sole complaint, which I also have with the other two Apache manuals I have read to date, is that after the first few chapters the books tend to get mired down in a line-by-line explanation of configuration directives. It would be much more valuable to system administrators new to Apache to have a few more process-oriented chapters. In other words, chapters which read "If you want to achieve x outcome, set y and z directives in the following manner, and this is why it works that way" are much more valuable to the new Apache admin with limited time on his/her hands than the more general "This is what directives x, y, and z do."
Perhaps this complaint is really simply a problem with determining the target audience, which is spectacularly difficult to do online with these books, given the marketing hyperbole that serves as book descriptions - we'd all be better served by a Table of Contents on the description page.
In any case, I heartily recommend the book as a desk reference for Apache configuration, especially if you need to run multiple sites on a single server, with the proviso that new Apache admins should look elsewhere for a more basic manual as well.

Atoms and Molecules - The Single Best Reference

I agree with the review of this text given by Robert Brown of Duke University. This text is the most comprehensive, complete and well-written single refernce on atomic and molecular theory that I ever worked with. Although I am not currently publishing in the field, I used it as a graduate student and later for extensive research in computational atomic physics.
It should be republished as soon as possible (Dover, are you listening?) - I, too, cannot believe that it is out of print and so hard to find. I am dying for the original hard copy, which seems to be impossible to find.
Perhaps the most outstanding feature of the book is that it presents an integrated account of angular momentum and other methods of atomic physics that is readable without "swamping" the reader with details and obscure notation. It also presents an excellent bridge between undergraduate quantum theory and relativistic quantum physics. Furthermore, it is an outstanding introduction for those wishing to do serious computational atomic or molecular physics. It does not "dumb down" the physics or mathematics for computational experts and provides a good grounding for those going on to specialize in the area.

Atoms and Molecules as an intro to quantum theory

I can't believe that this book is out of print -- it is a classic.
Quantum Theory is difficult to learn under the best of conditions and with multiple books. Atoms and Molecules is an encyclopediac text on basic quantum theory through what I'd call advanced intermediate level quantum theory, clearly enough written for an undergraduate junior or senior physics major but intended for a graduate student in physics or quantum chemistry.
It has lovely presentations of basic quantum results, angular momentum theory in full detail, perturbation theory, and the basis of quantum chemistry. The first 2/3 of the book are great for physics students. The last 1/3 is more for quantum chemists or physics students interested in molecular and structural physics.
Anyway, all I can say is rats! I'm gonna have to see if I can find a used copy myself. It is an excellent reference and resource for teaching quantum theory and doing theoretical (quantum) physics research, and the library finally took the copy I'd had out for years back!

Excellent book!

This book is fantastically written; clear and concise with very few words, yet it somehow makes sense and remains thorough. I have never found a book that conveys this quantity and quality of information so thoroughly in such a small number of pages. This book completes what I consider the holy trinity for the beginning graduate quauntum chemist: Atoms and Molecues by Weissbluth, Quantum Chemistry by Ira Levine, and Modern Quantum Chemistry: Introduction to Advanced Electronic Structure Theory by Szabo and Ostlund.

For the complete beginner, I recommend reading the first 8 or 9 chapters of Levine first, and taking time to digest them entirely. From there, a student can either finish Levine, read this book, or read Szabo and Ostlund. These three steps can be done in any order or all at the same time as I am doing now. This book brings Levine's book full circle in an elegant sort of a way, shortening concepts and summoning countless "aha" moments.

I have never felt quite as confident as I do now in my capacity to utterly comprehend quantum chemistry. Now I have found the missing link. These three books complement each other so well. Whenever I hit an obstacle in one book where I feel confused, I reference one of the other two books and pass through the obstacle as if through water, as if through air. Do not get overwhelmed if you are a complete beginner. There is a hump that you have to get over, but once you get over it, the process gets easier. The hump entails building a solid foundation upon which build further. The hump also entails being aware of the structure of the three books; how they are written, in what order specific concepts are presented, which formulas are most useful and where they are located, etc. For example, as you read the first chapter of this book, it is useful to have completely read and understood chapter 5 of Levine's book, because you can understand chapter 1 of this book much more quickly and you can go back and extract information from Levine quickly to help while reading this book.

I highly recommend this book as a member of the holy trilogy of quantum chemistry and I highly recommend using my algorithm of how to go about reading the holy trilogy.

Leadership Expert Says That Good Relationships Are A Key To Leadership

Leadership expert John Maxwell is extremely good at expressing complex truths in series of simple sentences that individually seem obvious. As the pages go by, one realizes one is being exposed to a well-thought out comprehensive world view as to how people should lead other people in a manner than benefits society as a whole.

Relationships are important to success, the author writes, because relationships are the glue that holds team members together.

What a leader needs to know about others, the author writes, is that people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.

Leaders can encourage others, the author says, by believing in people before they have proved themselves. This is the key to motivating people to reach their potential.

Leaders can connect with people, the author says, by always remembering that the heart comes before the head.

Leaders can become better listeners, the author says, by treating every person as if he or she were the most important person in the world.

Leaders can build trust with others, the author says, by having their words and actions match.

The most important relationships, the author says, are at home. Succeed at home, and all other relationships become easier.

A leader can serve and lead people at the same time by loving the people he or she leads more than his or her position, the author says.

As the author always does in the many books he writes, he backs up his views with famous historical quotes and anecdotes.. Leaders should recognize that the heart comes first, they should connect in public and in private, they should connect with people one at a time, they should expect the best of them, and they should recognize that the tougher the challenge the greater the connection. Southwest Airlines CEO Herb Kelleher is cited for the many ways in which he makes meaningful connections with his employees; Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton is also cited for going out of his way to have a long talk with a company truckdriver to both pay him respect and gain information from him.

The author's advice for developing listening skills is: look at the speaker, don't interrupt,focus on understanding, determine the need of the moment, check your emotions, suspend your judgment, sum up at major intervals, ask questions for clarity,and always make listening your priority.

Personal integrity is key to building trust with others, the author says. Integrity is not determined by circumstances, not based on credentials, and not to be confused with reputation. One can become a person of integrity by committing oneself to honesty, reliability and confidentiality; deciding ahead of time that you don't have a price; and each day doing what you should do before what you want to do.

To build a strong family, the author says, both partners have to work to stay together, express appreciation for each other, structure their lives to spend time together, deal with crises in a positive way, communicate continually, and share the same values.

To serve and lead people at the same time, one should have a servant's heart, put others ahead of one's own agenda, possess the confidence to serve, initiate service to others, not be position conscious, and serve out of love. To improve one's servanthood, one should perform small acts of kindness for others; learn to walk slowly through the crowd, making it your agenda to get to know each person's needs, wants, and desires; and to move into action and start serving.

Anyone in a leadership position, or aspiring to a leadership position, will benefit from reading this book. All the wisdom of the world can not be summarized in lists and aphorisms, but the author's methods go a long way to bringing common sense to the uncommon responsibilities many people face on a daily basis. This is an excellent book for those who wish to use their power to do much, much more than advance themselves.

First impression:
"I thought you'd be bigger."
Seriously, this book is just 89 pages. It's not terribly small print and it looks like it is 1.5 line-spaced, so it's not very dense text either. Paragraph and/or topic breaks create blank lines taking up even more page space. Basically if you are a decently quick reader and set out to actually read this book in one sitting, it is likely to happen in an hour or two.

What I think I have learned:
Ronald Regan liked people, Jimmy Carter not so much. To build good relationships you need to make other people think that they are your friend. Maybe even your best friend. You need to love yourself. You need to care about other people. Instead of trying to forward your own agenda, it is better to help other people... then they will help you.

Building a solid relationship takes respect, because if you don't respect someone they can tell, shared experiences because if you share this you can build a bond. Trust because you don't want to connect with people you don't trust. A two way street, relationships built with all the help, love, respect and/or trust coming from only one person in the relationship will fail.

Building good relationships is hard. People have fear. People are self-centered. People fail to appreciate differences or acknowledge similarities.

The heart comes first. You need to think about what people love and help them achieve that, this will help build a bond and they will then want to help you.

To build good relationships you need to stop talking. You need to be a good listener, because being a good listener means that you will be showing respect, you will be building a bond, you are increasing your knowledge, it can generate loyalty, help create ideas and is the best way to help others.

Family is the place that you need to build your first and best relationships. If you are able to do this well, other relationships will be built on the success you have seen building your family relationships. You cannot be truly successful in any arena if you do not have a successful family relationship.

You need to be a servant. You need to put other people's success or situation before your own. By helping someone else when they are in need, you open the door for them to bring you up with them. They will be more then happy to help you when you are in need, since you have already helped them. It's easier to ask for the return of a favor, versus to prompt someone to give to you when they have never received anything from you.

Overall impression of this book:
Not quite a waste of time, but after reading ALL 89 fun filled pages of this book, I feel like I didn't learn very much on how to build successful relationships. And this book is page after page of quotes from this person or that person.

Conclusion:
There is a bit of actual information in the book but if you are looking to learn how to better relate to people or build relationships, then there has to be better book out there. This topic is too big and too complex to be comprehensively covered in 89 pages.

Most of what you will read in this book is just a rehash of `this is how you should act'. I understand that the info in this book is decent. There are a lot of good things in this book, but when I think about reading a 101 book... I think that the book I am about to read is going to tell me HOW to do something. This book is more of an outline of things you should be doing to build good relationships, but it is very light on the application of the topics.

In this book you will find statements like, "listen to people to help yourself". It doesn't get very in depth as to techniques and ways that you can actively improve on specific skills.

To me this book is an ok starting point. Take each chapter and section as a suggestion on what OTHER types of books you need to read and what topics you need to really dig into to see some real improvement.
